According to new figures from Unbiased, as many as 82% of British consumers could be paying unnecessary tax which is adding to their debt management problems.
The group also added that some £7.9 billion of needless tax payments could be made in 2007.
A spokesperson for the group commented: "Because controlling tax is more firmly in our hands we are still throwing away £7.9 billion a year - enough to make a British millionaire everyday for the next 21 years."
