New figures from the Bank of England show that the number of people applying for a credit card is significantly lower than it has been for a long time.
Although borrowing on credit cards, loans and overdrafts grew by £300 million in September, that is the smallest increase in the UK for over 14 years.
Tom Howard from the CCCS believes it shows that consumers are tightening their belts and avoiding the temptation of credit card debt and other unsecured lending options.
